Project Description

About The Course:

Overview

East Coast Divers’ scuba certification course is a 3 part program. Classroom, pool, and open water certification dives are all required to obtain certification. It is very common for students to start their training here and finish the certification dives on one of our group trips or at another dive facility in warmer water. For those that get cold easily, we also offer a drysuit option for local open water certification dives. Drysuits require a bit more training but will keep you MUCH warmer during the local dives.

Our course uses a flexible schedule and unlimited training to ensure a course structure that will work for anyone.

The Flexible schedule is designed to be fit into everyone’s busy schedules.  Once you sign up and have completed the online training, you have to complete a minimum of 2 classroom sessions and 7 pool sessions. We offer both an Equipment and Science classroom every week and you’re free to jump in on any as long as you get in touch with us at LEAST 2 days in advance. You’ll have to complete the Equipment classroom before getting in the pool, but the 2nd classroom can be done at any point throughout the rest of your training.

The pool sessions can be similarly scheduled at your convenience. We offer pool sessions on Wednesday nights from 8pm – 9.30pm and on Sunday’s we run two sessions one from 6pm – 7.30pm and the next from 8pm – 9.30pm. As long as you sign up at LEAST 2 days in ADVANCE we’ll make sure there is an instructor there that is teaching whichever pool session you’re on.

If you’re ready to buy you can do so by calling the shop or purchasing online!

There are a couple of steps before you can get into the water – including completing the online training, your first classroom and completing all relevant paperwork. Most of the paperwork can be done during the first classroom session, but it’s usually a good idea to check over the medical ahead of time and get a doctors sign off as necessary. Remember, if you write YES to any of the questions on the medical a doctors sign off is required.  Once your Pool & Class training is complete you are eligible for the Open Water Certification Dives as outlined below.

Please Contact East Coast Divers 617-277-2216 with any questions.

Before Class

Note- All the paper work you’ll need, along with a what to do before class checklist is located in the corresponding tab

Before you can start class you’ll need to fill out some paperwork. Most of this can be done ahead of time, but some of it will have to be done in the shop. The only piece that MUST be completed at the shop is a folder provided by SSI. You will need to fill this particular folder out in the shop as we keep it for our records. You can do this before class – just remember to show up 30 minutes early if you haven’t filled it out yet!

What to do before class

Risk Awareness Videos

There are a couple of forms that can be done ahead of time. Most important is the medical. Go through the medical now and check to see if you need to answer “YES” to any of the questions. If so no big deal – you’ll just need to get a doctors sign off before we can let you in the pool. The doctors note is in the same file as the medical – Just scroll down to the next page. Remember IF you answer “YES” to anything in the medical it is COMPULSORY to get a doctors note BEFORE getting in the pool.

Medical

Schedule

Below to you can find an up to date schedule with all of our available open water class and pool sessions. Just remember you need to sign up at LEAST two days in ADVANCE. You can schedule in person, over the phone or via email.

Location

The Class will take place at the Shop in Brookline (213 Boylston Street) and the pool is located in BU’s Walter Brown Arena (285 babcock Street, Boston Ma)

Private Courses

Private courses are set up a little bit differently than regular open water courses. The beginning process is the same – you’ll still be required to fill out the pre class form, folder and medical, but you won’t be tethered to our schedule. Instead you can find out whenever works best for you and let us know so we can get the sessions scheduled – if you’re scheduling the pool outside our normal pool hours we can do that too*. Make sure to let us know in advance, as we have to rent the pool and make sure it doesn’t conflict with any other activities going on that day. If you do use the pool when we have it rented that’s perfect! There will be other people in the pool, but you (or you group) will be working privately with your instructor.

*The student is responsible for all pool rental fee’s and associated costs if booking to pool outside of our regualrly scheduled pool sessions.

Pvt 1 Person $680 per person | $680 total Pvt 3 people $530 per person | $1590 total
Pvt 2 people $580 per person | $1160 total Pvt 4 people $505 per person | $2020 total
