Project Description

We are Boston’s premier diving education center for Decompression Classes and other scuba lessons in Massachusetts and New England!

About The Course:

Decompression is possibly the least understood concept in scuba diving for most newly certified divers. But perhaps even stranger most divers don’t realize how little they know about this condition. Decompression has been a limitation all divers need to manage since the development of Scuba so many decades ago. One of the areas of knowledge that has changed so little over time is still one of the most misunderstood. Come find out the difference between DCI and DCS. How DCS became known as the “Bends” and the best techniques available to help avoid it. Our Decompression Workshop will teach you everything you want to learn about the theory and more! This is a classroom only specialty and is typically held once a month on a Saturday.

Before Class

Note- All the paperwork you’ll need, along with a what to do before class checklist is located in the corresponding tab

Before class there is a bit of paperwork you’ll have to fill out. The most important piece is the medical, which can be printed out and brought to your first classroom session.

What to do before class

Risk Awareness Videos

Because this course is classroom only, it is not compulsory to get a medical filled out. If you are planning to take other courses with us that include pool / ocean diving then it’s not a bad idea to look into getting the medical now. A medical form has a shelf life of 1 year, so if you have completed this form within the past 12 months you don’t need to worry about it.

The decompression workshop runs in conjuncture with our Nitrox course. You can take them both together or separately. This course alone is not enough to certify you to dive with Nitrox, but if you want to sign up for Nitrox as well you can do so on the Nitrox page.

The Class will take place at the Shop in Brookline (213 Boylston Street) and the open water session will be dependent on weather. A couple of the popular ones can be found in the directions tab above.

Private Courses

We also offer Private courses for our specialties! The Pricing schedule for Deco and Dive Planning can be found below:

1 person $225 per person – $225 total 3 People $202.5 per person – $607.5 total
2 People $202.5 per person | $410 total 4 People $202.5 per person| $810 total

Much of the process is the same as normal classes, you’ll pay in advance and fill out much of the same paperwork. We have made a slightly modified form which you can find below. You’ll be emailed the password for this form as soon as you purchase the class!

You’ll be doing all of your scheduling through Kim. She will be in contact as soon as you sign up for class to help schedule a session. If you have any questions before signing up feel free to send Kim an email directly at

What to do before class

This course is completely dry so the only equipment you’ll need is a pen and paper and a go getter A+ attitude! If you have a dive computer that you want to learn how to use a little better then it’s not a bad idea to bring that along too!
*Note* Not all of our instructors will be familiar with every model of dive computer, but most will be able to help find some functionality or explain features you might not have known about.

At East Coast Divers our top priority is to introduce smart, competent, and passionate divers into the world. Which is why several of our courses can be bundled together for a discount to promote the pursuit of dive education.

Our Science of Diving class bundle gives you 10% off the total of all 5 Science of Diving classes. It is popular for those divers pursuing their Dive Master certification, since all 5 Science of Diving courses, as well as the Dive Guide course, are prerequisites for achieving Dive Master.

To take advantage of the course bundle discount, choose the “SOD – 5 Course Bundle” option in the booking area at the top right of this page and the promotion will be automatically applied.
