The SSI Extended Range program provides you with the training necessary to independently plan and conduct limited decompression (25 minutes or less) dives to a maximum depth of 145 feet (when using Trimix), using decompression gas mixtures of up to 100% and technical diving systems and procedures in the equipment configuration used during the program with an equally- or more-qualified dive team. The Extended Range diving program represents the standard in decompression diving. This course is often combined with the prerequisite Extended Range Nitrox program as a primary entry into technical diving and Trimix.

Why advance your decompression training?

learning to use proper planning and procedures in the Extended Range Nitrox program is a great introduction into the world of decompression but often leaves many divers thirsty for more. Increasing your decompression gas mixtures from 50% to 100% and opening the total decompression time to 25 minutes allows a much broader range of possibilities for planning and executing more robust dives. In order to safely increase these margins a range of increased safety and control skills need to be added to the training which are addressed in the Extended Range program.

As an example… Using a VPM planner, we plan a first dive of the day to 100 feet using 32% and 50% for our decompression mix we can do a 45-minute dive at 100 feet. When we open up our maximum allowable decompression time and gas we are able to achieve up to a 90-minute dive using 32%, 100% on deco with 25 minutes of decompression time!  And that’s if you want to spend ALL of your time at the deepest point. The Extended Range program is also the first introduction into mixed gas diving and the use of Helium to reach depths up to 145 feet. For most purposes, this advanced decompression course will open up an incredible amount more time at depths up to 145 feet and those advantages continue as you go deeper.
