Equipment Service

Winter Service SALE!

Through January and February, we are running a sale on all labor fees for all equipment services! Regulator Performance Checks, Regulator Overhauls, BC Services, Computer Battery Changes, Cylinder VIPs and Hydros! 15% off.

In addition to 15% off service labor fees, we are also offering free return shipping for all first-time customer equipment service that has been shipped in. With dive centers closing in the North East over the past few years, we want to help divers have an exceptional, fast, and cost-effective option for all their gear service needs.

East Coast Divers provides service for all parts of the scuba system. We are certified service technicians for dozens of brands and experienced service providers for Regulators, Cylinders, BCs, Wetsuits, Drysuits, Masks, Fins, Dive Computers, and more. Every service we provide comes with a 1-year warranty unless otherwise noted. This means we will back up any service we have provided by offering free mid-season tuning and full product support. Services we offer are outlined below, along with benefits provided by the East Coast Divers Scuba Diving Equipment Service Department.

1-Year or 100 Dive Warranty

All service provided is guaranteed for one year. Receive free mid-season tune-ups to keep your equipment tip-top until its next service is due. We back up our work and want our customers to be safe and happy.

Fast and Predictable Turn-Around Times

Turnaround time is subject to parts on hand. Needing to order parts can possibly add weeks or even occasionally months to service time. When this occurs, it is often out of our control due to manufacturing parts availability. As service time changes, you will be notified ASAP.

Supply Chain Issues

Due to supply chain issues, we may not have all parts kits in stock and readily available. If you have any urgency regarding your service order, please call or email the shop with details as soon as possible so we can meet your expectations. Even brands like Aqualung are running weeks to months behind in supply.

Rush Service Available

If you need your gear in less than two weeks, we can make that happen often. Our service techs seldom travel simultaneously, and as long as a technician is available, we can usually have equipment turned around in a day or two if parts are on hand. For “front of the line” expedition (within 3 days. Typically less) an additional $50 fee will be assessed. For next day service (only available at the discretion of the service technician) an extra $100 fee will be assessed.

* For All Rush Services – If we are unable to meet your need by date’ for any reason, we will provide one of our rental regulators for free for your trip or up to 1 month *

Serviced, Checked, then Checked Again.

After items are serviced, they are rigorously tested. Then, the item is hung for 24 to 48 hours to allow the seats to set. Another tech then checks the item, and it is finally checked a final time upon pick up.

Parts On Hand

With our active repair department, we always keep over $15,000 of parts in stock. This means we can service your gear and return it to you faster than anyone! We only use high-quality replacement parts that meet or exceed manufacturer standards.

OUR SERVICES

Regulator/Valve Service

Scuba regulators are made to be robust pieces of equipment. They need to be able to work in some very hostile environments and if one were to fail every opportunity has been taken to ensure the reg fails in the open position (too much as opposed to no air). Unfortunately, they are finely tuned pieces of equipment. Plus, water, especially saltwater, causes a lot of wear and tear.

Here at ECDivers, we overhaul regulators every day. We deal with many different brands/models and designs. We don’t unnecessarily service equipment if it doesn’t need it and we can polish a ball of corrosion that was once a first stage back to its shiny glory. Check out our available services below.

A divers BC is ultimately responsible for the diver’s positioning in the water. From descents to neutral buoyancy, controlled ascents, and positive buoyancy at the surface the BC does all the heavy lifting so to speak. Unfortunately, a BC that won’t hold air or one that inflates itself can take a dive from fun to frustrating and even dangerous.

Most divers don’t service their BC’s when then do their Regulators but they should. Saltwater is just as tough on your BC as it is on the rest of your gear. It’s important to make sure it can keep you safe and having fun.

All gauges, whether depth, Tank Pressure, Or deco information, give us the necessary info to complete our dives safely. Keeping gauges, computers, and transmitters regularly serviced helps ensure reliability for these much-needed systems. Your dive computer is the best decompression related information you have from dive to dive. As divers, we have to track our personal decompression obligations; dive computers are the most popular way. Over 85% of divers use dive computers, but without proper service, you’re at risk of your dive computer failing during a dive trip or, worse, in the middle of a dive.

Our dive computer services are based on Battery changes and function testing. There are very few adjustments that dive centers can make to any of the computers available today. Some units can be sent back for service under certain situations. Our computer services are as follows.

Scuba cylinders are the only piece of dive equipment that is regulated by the U.S. government. Due to DOT regulations, cylinders need to be hydrostatically inspected every 5 years and industry standards require visual cylinder inspections to happen annually.

We do all of our tank servicing in-house with the exception of hydro inspections. Due to this please allow up to 4 weeks for hydros.

At East Coast, we fill all the major gases that divers need. We offer Air fills by individual fills or in a 10 fill card. We offer Nitrox fills up to 100%. Our Nitrox system allows us to Fill cylinders with premixed Nitrox (up to 40%*) without the need to O2 clean cylinders and valves. We can also fill O2 serviced cylinders with any percentage without risking contamination. Along with Nitrox we also have the ability to blend trimix. We fill any mix and maintain a stock of Helium. We even have an inlet on our fill panel to fill off previously filled cylinders. Our mixed gas fill station also features Haskel gas boosters as well as high-pressure storage bottles allowing us to fill up to 4500psi for Scott packs and paintball cylinder.

*Cylinders must be certified and stamped with “Over 40%” whenever pure O2 is used in a gas blend. Typically we have Premixed 32% on hand so richer mixes may only be available for O2 serviced cylinders and valves.

Air and Premix Fills

Custom Fills

*Anyone certified as a Gas Blender through East Coast Divers is considered a Fill Station Operator (FSO) who can blend their own cylinders without paying the blending fees. FSOs are still responsible for gas fees (including $10/tank for air). For more info on our Blending Course click HERE.

FSO Gas Blender Class

All fills are priced per single scuba rated cylinder. Fills outside of our standards will be filled and priced using a prorated system.

We reserve the right to refuse fill service to any cylinder if we believe it poses a risk to our staff and/or facility.

At East Coast Divers, we offer a variety of service options for rebreather divers. Regardless of the particular unit you dive we are generally capable of servicing regulators for nearly any unit. As a Scubaforce service center, we can provide general service to SF-2 CCR rebreathers. And we are a full-service center for Hollis Prism 2 Rebreathers.

Please contact us ahead of time before bringing in or sending us your rebreather for service. We can often perform rush service for a fee as needed. We can also schedule your service to be performed on a particular day at no charge*. This can dramatically lower the time your unit will be out of the water.

*While we keep MANY new parts on hand to service both Prism-2 and SF-2 CCR it is possible that we need determine that parts need to be ordered to complete your CCR service which will extend service times.

Hollis Prism 2:

We are a factory-certified service center for Hollis Prism 2 rebreathers. We can offer nearly any required service to the unit and perform in-water depth testing on a functioning Prism 2 CCR. Along with the annual service that can be done at most authorized Hollis Rebreather Dealers, East Coast Divers is able to do the Five Year Service, CE Upgrades, Older unit upgrades, and general repairs. While the factory in Salt Lake City can also do repairs, the primary duty of the factory is to assemble NEW Prism 2 rebreathers. This can lead to long repair times. Please contact us ahead of time before bringing in or sending us your rebreather for service.

Annual / 36 month Service

ANNUAL –

The Prism 2 has a multitude of o-rings and consumable parts that need to be changed like any other scuba system. Many divers will find that they are capable of performing the annual service items independently of a dealer with the exception of the regulators when they need to be serviced. The following document is a User Service manual that can assist in the annual user maintenance of the Prism-2 Rebreather:

Prism2_Owner_Service_Manual

36 MONTH –

Hollis recommends that the body of the Prism-2 (all systems outside of the Head) be serviced by a factory-certified technician every 36 months or less. The 36-month service provides cleaning, inspection, lubrication, and installation of the parts recommended by the manufacturer. For divers that put many hours, hard hours, or a combination of the two on their CCR we recommend shortening the 36-month service schedule to 12 months or less as needed.

When you send in your unit, we inspect, clean, and rebuild the unit to factory specifications. If there are parts that need replacing outside of normal annual service, our Factory Trained Service techs can take care of you. When sending in your unit, we do NOT need the BCD, stand, aftermarket accessories, backplate, cover, harness, or yoke unless you wish for us to inspect it and, in the case of the BCD or the cover, rebuild it. If you have both a DSV and a BOV, send both. The labor is included in the rebuilding of both units.

Five Year Service

Every five years it is recommended that the bulkhead o-rings and solenoid o-rings get changed in the head of the Prism 2. The process includes the complete disassembly of the head of the Prism 2, cleaning and inspecting internal parts, and the labor required to do this service. Once reassembled, the head of the unit is pressure tested for a fixed depth and duration to verify the correct assembly of the unit.

It is a common misconception that this service also includes new hardware such as cables, electronics, and solenoid assembly. These are NOT changed unless specifically requested or if a fault is found on the part. Since the unit is completely disassembled at this point, no additional labor is needed to make any requested changes. Many divers with older units typically request a replacement of the cables and the Solenoid since the unit is apart anyway. Unless moisture has entered the Head, electronics are not typically replaced.

If there is something found that does not pass inspection, you will be notified that changes need to be made. It will be assumed that you wish to have your unit returned to factory specifications. If a part needs to be replaced, we will notify you, but there is really no choice in the matter. We are NOT able to reassemble the unit with parts that are questionable.

The five-year services are a bit time-consuming. Since we are taking your unit apart, upgrades are available with no additional labor required.

Scubaforce SF-2:

The SF-2 is an exploration-grade rebreather with a simple design. We are capable of performing general service of the SF-2 unit. Unfortunately, for any work on the Shearwater Electronics, they must be sent back to the US factory service center. While many divers will find that they are capable of performing much of the annual/general service on their SF2 CCR there are some more complex systems that should be serviced bi-annually or sooner to avoid failures.
