What they are. Stainless steel springs with a rubber or neoprene heel pad that replace the adjustable rubber straps and buckles on open-heel fins.
Why divers want them. Rubber fin straps crack, buckles snap, and both fail on the boat when you can least afford it. A spring strap has nothing to adjust and nothing to break: you stretch it over your heel and it holds the fin snugly on every dive. They go on and off easily with thick gloves and cold hands, which is why nearly every cold-water diver ends up with them, and they don’t loosen during a dive the way rubber straps do.
Good to know. Springs are sized to the fin, not the foot, and the fitting depends on the fin model (some bolt on, some use the existing strap posts). Tell us your fin make and model, or put the fins in the box, and we’ll fit the right ones.
What we’ll ask you. Fin make and model, and whether the fins are coming with the gear.
