Background:

Brian first got into diving during college, and one of his very first checkout dives was in Lake Champlain… in February. It was snowing when he got out of the water, and his hands were so numb he couldn’t even get his suit off. That experience definitely left an impression—and while he’s tough enough to handle cold water, he’s preferred tropical settings ever since.

He’s since made the most of warmer adventures, with dives on the Great Barrier Reef, in the crystal-clear cenotes of Mexico, and even inside the Giant Ocean Tank at the New England Aquarium. No matter the site, Brian brings a calm, practical approach to diving (and a strong appreciation for any place where your fingers still work after the dive).

Favorite Dive Site:

Brian hasn’t been able to dive it yet, but Johnston Atoll holds a special place in his heart. While working for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, he and his team were stationed on this remote desert island in the middle of the Pacific. Just off the north side of the atoll, the reef is covered in sprawling table corals—some as wide as a car—along with a vibrant mix of reef species, massive green morays, and curious spotted eagle rays.

He’s only snorkeled it so far, but it left a lasting impression. And it’s definitely at the top of his “must dive” list.

Favorite Creature:

For Brian, nothing beats the thrill of seeing mobula rays breach. There’s something almost surreal about it—these graceful, gliding creatures suddenly launching themselves out of the water like they’ve got somewhere urgent to be. Whether they’re flipping, flopping, or just showing off, it’s the kind of moment that sticks with you long after the dive is over.

Favorite Certification Course:

Brian’s favorite course was Dive Guide. It struck the perfect balance of challenge and support, pushing him to think like a leader while giving him the tools to succeed. Learning how to plan and manage dive trips—from logistics to group dynamics—added a whole new dimension to diving and helped him see the sport through a completely different lens.

Goals In The Dive Industry:

Brian’s long-term goal is to continue pursuing research diving, with a focus on monitoring and protecting at-risk coral reef ecosystems. With a background in marine conservation and a love for exploration, he’s passionate about contributing to the science that helps preserve these environments for future generations. For Brian, diving isn’t just about the experience—it’s about making a difference underwater.

Dive Kit:

For Brian, it’s all about function—and his favorite piece of gear proves it. A retractable gear holder might not be flashy, but it makes a big difference. No more fumbling or fishing around for his SPG or computer—everything’s right where it should be, every time. Streamlined, efficient, and just one less thing to think about when you're underwater.
