Background:

Kim’s connection to the ocean started young—beach days, boat trips with family, and plenty of time spent wandering through aquariums. She was scuba certified at just 13 years old, and her dive path took off from there. In 2008, she was selected as the Boston Sea Rovers Frank Scalli Intern, and today she serves as Vice President of the organization, continuing her commitment to education, exploration, and mentorship in diving.

After earning her BS in Marine Biology from the University of New England, Kim headed west to California, where she worked with the Monterey Bay Aquarium as both a scientific diving intern and instructor with Underwater Explorers—introducing kids ages 8 to 13 to surface scuba diving. It was there she became an AAUS scientific diver and learned the ins and outs of dive program logistics, gear maintenance, and diver management.

Since 2014, Kim has worked as the Assistant Diving Safety Officer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where she helps run one of the most respected scientific diving programs in the country. She holds instructor credentials with NAUI, SSI, and DAN, and in 2018, she earned her master’s degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management through the Harvard Extension School.
