Our next Equipment Techniques class is on Thursday, March 12, 2026!
Learn how to troubleshoot, field repair, and prevent equipment malfunctions from one of New England’s premier scuba service technicians with over 20 years of experience.
The SSI Equipment Techniques course teaches you how to choose, maintain, and store your Total Diving System. This ensures performance and increases the longevity of your equipment. We can also arrange private courses for a group at other times by request. Contact training@ecdivers.com for private scheduling.
Why take the equipment techniques course?
Don’t lose a single dive to minor equipment problems. Learn how to perform field repairs on your equipment and the proper care that it should have on a regular basis. In this course, we will cover basic and advanced operations, as well as field maintenance of regulator first and second stages, gauges, computers, low-pressure hoses, masks, fins, wetsuits, BC’s, hoses, tanks, lights, and more. We will also cover what really goes into a regulator overhaul. Join us with your own equipment to learn these valuable skills.
We look at all types of scuba and diving equipment and review strengths, weaknesses, and importance to the world of diving. We discuss the history of scuba for full comprehension of product development and the future of design. We break down complex pieces of equipment to fully understand how it works. This helps a diver’s ability to fix problems while at a dive site. We also look at issues that are best to not try and solve while at a dive site for complexity and safety reasons.
Class topics cover a range of gear service questions
Examples from a class include:

Alex removes a leaky valve on a drysuit for service

Addressing a leaky reg hose

fixing a leaking gauge

second stage mechanics

adjusting the hard seat on a second stage to stop a free flow

comparing valves
Have your own scuba equipment related questions? This course offers a great opportunity to connect with a dive instructor who has extensive experience with gear service. Real-world problems make great case studies to discuss in class so make sure to ask!
