On track to become the first climate-resilient nation in the world and most recently named a top destination to visit in 2020 by Condé Nast Traveler, Dominica remains unspoilt by the impacts of mass tourism and offers an ethical, environmentally supportive option for travelers. Embraced by lush foliage and secluded beaches throughout, the island fosters one’s most dream-like fascinations. With rugged pinnacles, drop-offs, abyss depths and more just waiting to be discovered, the Caribbean’s ‘Nature Island’ waters are a paradise for divers!

About the Diving

As one of the top ten diving destinations in the world, Dominica has so much to offer divers of any experience level. There are calm shallows to explore, where curious seahorses cling to coral branches.

Deeper waters make home for over 20 species of whales that frequent these seas. Fantastic wall dives and unique crevices are waiting to be explore. La Sorciere, also known as L’Abym, is one of the most popular wall dives, where divers can peruse easily, as there is little to no current. Make your way along the volcanic ridge of Crater’s Edge, where barracuda stalk their prey and large schools of tuna and snapper make appearances.

Thermal springs erupt around the island, including underwater where volcanic bubbles and warm water emanate from certain sites.

With rugged pinnacles, drop-offs, abyss depths and more just waiting to be discovered, the Caribbean’s ‘Nature Island’ waters are a paradise for divers and best experienced via Fort Young Hotel’s Dive Operation. Dominica has long been a treasured dive destination and Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort, with its prime location in the country’s capital city of Roseau along the shores of the Caribbean Sea, has played host to dive travelers from around the world for more than a decade. Come and discover the nature that Dominica has to offer, above and below the water. Fort Young Dive also offers a unique resort diving experience, making it convenient and comfortable for guests to make a splash at any time of day. Tanks are provided on the dock for accommodating shore dives, exclusive for Fort Young Dive guests.

Before going on your first boat dive you will receive a mandatory dive orientation in which you will fill out the necessary paperwork but also receive all the information that is needed to have a pleasant week of diving. Afterwards, a check-out dive in front of the dive shop will make sure you and your equipment are in sync.

Set upon Dominica’s most storied property, Fort Young Hotel embraces a rich and soulful history that reinforces the hotel’s welcoming and homely ambiance. While the hotel first opened in 1964, the land upon which it sits dates back to 1699. Having evolved from a military fort to a central police station and, presently, a hotel, the land has been inundated with an undeniable sense of character; a colorful and cultural vibrancy that defines Fort Young Hotel.

Known as an off-the-beaten-track destination and the hidden gem of the Caribbean, Dominica is a travel bucket list must for travelers. Direct flights into Dominica’s Douglas Charles Airport (DOM) include from Miami, Puerto Rico, Barbados, and several other Caribbean islands.
