This program teaches the skills and concepts required to safely operate a compressed gas fill station and blend Nitrox and/or helium-based Trimix blends for mixed-gas diving. It is also required for anyone interested in using the fill station at East Coast Divers. This non-diving program is open to certified Nitrox and Trimix divers and teaches the mathematics, physics, and techniques required to blend breathing gases competently and safely. The objective of this course is to train candidates in the proper techniques, equipment requirements, and hazards involved in blending nitrox and mixed gasses for scuba diving activities.
Why learn gas blending?
Would you like more control over how and when your cylinders are filled? Would you also like to save some money on each fill? Have you ever wondered how your Nitrox and/or Trimix cylinders are filled and are interested in the “behind-the-scenes” look at what makes a Mixed Gas fill happen?
As part of the East Coast Divers Blending Course, you will use the ECD blending panel to complete the practical filling portion of the course. Upon successful completion of the program safe and competent blenders will earn the privilege of using the ECD blending station under indirect supervision. Continued use of the blending station will require the user to operate the station at least annually and keep current with fill station training updates as they are released.
*The East Coast Divers Blending course can accommodate both Nitrox or Trimix users. Only divers who are certified in the use of a gas will be trained in the blending practices for that gas unless the candidate works at a facility that fills that particular gas. In effect only Trimix certified divers will be trained to fill Trimix and Nitrox. Only Nitrox certified divers will be trained to fill Nitrox. If a dive professional works a facility that fills either gas they can be trained in the blending process for the applicable gas(es).
If a Nitrox diver becomes Blender certified and later becomes Trimix certified and wants to upgrade their certification they can join a later class to upgrade their Gas Blender certification for a nominal fee.
If a diver is Neither Nitrox or Trimix certified but would like to operate the ECD fill station to fill air tanks that training is also available. Please contact the Technical Training Director Alex (alex@ecdivers.com) for more info.
