The culmination of the SSI Freediver program, the Open Water dives to ensure you can execute the skills you developed in the pool in an Open Water Environment. You’ll learn to use a freediving float and training lines to practice Constant Weight (CWT) and Free Immersion (FIM) methods. Over two days of open water instruction, you’ll practice water safety and rescue skills and execute target dives up to 66ft/20m. The cost for freediving open water dives is $595. Once certified, you can freedive with a buddy in open water up to a depth of 20 meters and explore a variety of stunning underwater ecosystems around the world.

The dives occur over two days, Saturday and Sunday, from 9 am to approximately 1 pm. Both days are at Hathaway’s’ Pond in Barnstable, MA, so feel free to get a hotel in the area if you want to save on the drive on Sunday morning! Contact Nick@ecdivers.com for inquiries about freediving courses

Freediving Level 1 Part 1: Class and Pool | Freediving Level 1 Part 2: Open Water Dives

Before Class

Before attending your class you will need to complete some paperwork. The forms will be emailed to you for your review and can be completed by Eversign prior to your class.

Before enrolling in a class, you should take time to read and review the Diver Medical Statement Participant Questionnaire. The first page has If you have any YES answers on that page, review the associated section on the second page. If you have any YES responses on page 2 you’ll just need to get a doctors’ sign-off (on the Physicians Approval to Dive form) before you can participate in ANY in-water activities. It’s important to note if a physician’s signature is required, only a medical doctor’s (MD or DO) signature will be accepted per agency rules (no NP or PA signatures).

If you have any questions give us a call at the store on 617-277-2216 or shoot us an email training@ecdivers.com.

Much of the process is the same as normal classes; you’ll pay and complete the same paperwork in advance. We have made a slightly modified form, which you can find below. You’ll be emailed the password for this form as soon as you purchase the class!

You’ll be scheduling through the ECD Training Team. They will contact you when you sign up for the class to help schedule a session. If you have any questions before signing up, email training@ecdivers.com. Please contact us for pricing and sign-up information.

It is best to complete the freediving course in dedicated freediving gear. As you will learn in your first class session, fins, masks, and snorkels are designed to give freedivers the least drag and make them extremely efficient in the water. If you are curious about what gear is the best fit for you, feel free to swing by the shop to chat with one of the staff members or ask your freediving instructor; either will be more than happy to discuss the options with you. For the open water work, you’ll also want to look into getting a freediving wetsuit. Local divers typically use a 5mm or 7mm suit, while tropical divers often select a dive skin or 3mm suit depending on their cold tolerance.

  • Two days of open water instruction.
  • In water safety and rescue.
  • Target dives up to 66ft/20m.
  • 4-6 hours of dive time.
  • 1:4 instructor to student ratios.

Ask about the availability of Freediving Boot Camps (or check out the travel page on this site) for opportunities to complete open-water dives in the picturesque cenotes of Tulum or another tropical location.
