This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive at night or in limited visibility conditions. Night & Limited Visibility Diving can be considered any diving condition in which limited visibility adds special skills needed to safely dive, including much of our local diving! You will learn how to enter and exit the water, use specialized equipment, and how to communicate with and maintain a connection with your dive team at night or under limited visibility conditions.
Why learn night and limited visibility diving?
Night diving can be a fun and new adventure all divers should experience and most dive resorts will offer opportunities to explore their home reefs at night to divers with relevant experience. Animals that are hard to find during the day often venture out at night making this the best time to see, and photograph, certain creatures. There is also a fun unique atmosphere to night diving and not to mention many people love to dive after work but have to struggle to get in the water while the sun is still out. Why not just night dive!
Along with that, the skills learned in night diving are similar to the ones we use in limited visibility diving environments much like some of the dives that we experience here in New England. So even if you don’t have much interest in night diving these same skills will make you a much more comfortable and confident New England diver as well.
The Night Diving Course teaches standard light signals, general light use, limited vis navigation, and other useful tricks for comfortable diving under low light conditions. Sign up today!
Why train with ECD?
- We use small ratios to ensure you have plenty of instructor attention. Our max for a night diving course is 4 students per instructor
- This is a full specialty including 2 dives, not just one “try dive”, so you have plenty of time to develop comfort and competence
- The course also covers Limited Visibility diving so you’ll get tips and tricks for day diving in NE as well as night dives
- Our course has a separate academic session (via zoom) with an instructor so your dive time can be spent in the water diving
When does the class run?
Night Diving consists of a Classroom zoom and two open water dives on a Saturday evening. Make sure to get a lot of sleep the night before as this class usually runs late! The course runs in the summer months (July and August typically)
