The Search & Recovery Course is designed for divers looking to expand their navigation skills by compass, line navigation, and advanced search patterns. These techniques are optimal for search procedures. Six specific search techniques will be discussed and practiced to always have the best search to use in any situation.Lift bags are the general tool of the trade to bring objects to the surface that are too heavy to safely lift on your own. We have a large assortment of lift bags to discuss selection, attachment, and lifting techniques. For the final evaluation, you will perform the different searches in the water as you navigate between different checkpoints until you find the last item that will need to be lifted to the surface using the lift bag techniques discussed in class. Search and recovery training includes a workshop session at the shop and 2 open water dives, typically bundled with the Advanced Navigation Course for an attractive price!

Why train with ECD?

  • We combine Navigation with Search and Recovery so you get two specialties in one course
  • Our classes are full specialties, not just a “try dive” of each one
  • All your academics and land based skills for the combined course will be done during the workshop so your dive day is spent actually diving
  • Combining Navigation with Search and Recovery allows for more compass practice during search patterns, leading to more comfort/competence
